Pituitary gland the master gland of endocrine glands produces Human growth hormone. Pituitary gland is oval- shaped that is present at the bottom side of the brain. Every endocrine gland depends on the pituitary gland hormones for their function. A part of the brain called hypothalamus control the secretions of hormones by pituitary gland. Like all endocrine glands, pituitary gland also secretes hormones directly into the blood stream.

This gland is further divided into two regions anterior pituitary and posterior pituitary, each region secretes various hormones based on the signal received from the hypothalamus. Human Growth Hormone is secreted by anterior region of the pituitary which, is directly released into the blood stream. As the name of the hormone suggests human growth hormone promotes growth by stimulating protein synthesis, mineralization of cartilage and bone making them to grow and burns down the fats to provide extra energy needed for the growth. Human growth hormone is secreted in large quantities in adolescence at this age we can see maximum growth of the body with the increase in age the amount of HGH secreted in the body decreases during the age of around 70 - 75 HGH levels in the body decreases by 90 percent. Therefore with increasing in age, body tends to loss appetite, rate of metabolism slows down, fat begins to build up, low energy levels, bones and muscles become weak.

Level of HGH in the body is very important because excess or decline levels have serious effects on the body. Excess growth hormone leads to gigantism while decline levels of growth hormone from childhood leads to dwarfism. Human body may experience HGH deficiency due to following reasons: genetic problem where in HGH is not secreted in the body from the childhood or due to damage to the pituitary gland, for some reasons do not able to produce HGH. And the other cause of HGH deficiency is aging as the body grow old it produces limited amounts of HGH that is not enough for the body thus experiences HGH deficiency.

Human growth hormone deficiency in children is very rare. Symptoms of growth hormone deficiency in children include retarded growth, delayed physical maturation. Severe growth hormone deficient children have status que body size, they look shorter than other kids of the same age, in male children there will be stunted development of penis resulting in micro-penis, decreased level of glucose in the body called hypoglycemia and jaundice . Parents have to track the growth of the children if any of the above abnormalities are seen then they have to consult the Pediatric endocrinologist to study the level of growth hormone and treat accordingly.

In adults, growth hormone levels decreases with increase in age as a natural process but sometimes for some reasons pituitary gland does not secrete enough growth hormone normal to the age. In that case, levels of growth hormone in the blood have to be tested. If the levels of growth hormone are found to be lower than the normal range then measures to correct the levels have to be implemented like injections, etc depending on the age of the person. Adults lacking or deficient of HGH show symptoms like increased fat deposits mainly around the waistline, bones become brittle and easily broken, muscle mass is reduced, energy levels falls, etc. However, these symptoms might be caused by other disorders also so correct diagnosis is necessary to determine the cause of the symptom.

Due to the advancement of technology in the field of science and medicine HGH deficiency can be corrected now. In 1950s Maurice Raben, to treat a HGH deficient boy extracted and purified human growth hormone from the pituitary glands of deceased people. Then after that, the process of purification is optimized and people with HGH deficiency are treated with the purified growth hormone. In 1980s, an American company named Genentech produced Human growth hormone in large scale in the laboratory using the new technology called recombinant DNA technology. Where the scientists isolated the gene responsible to produce growth hormone and inserted into a vector called plasmid and into a bacteria to produce growth hormone in large scale. Now most of the growth hormone used to treat HGH deficient patients is rhGH (recombinant human growth hormone). There are many companies like Eli Lilly, Pfizer, and Novo Nordisk in US and around the world produces growth hormone in large scales with highest quality and purity. Any ways, treatment of HGH has to be done under the supervision of a registered medical practitioner checking the levels of HGH in the blood from time to time and adjusting the dosage as per the requirement and age. In adults, decreased level of growth hormone makes them to appear older than their age so growth hormone is increasingly used as an anti aging formula. The level of growth hormone decides the growth pattern of an individual, level of growth hormone various from individual to individual of same age. Growth hormone deficiency may lead to serious physical and psychological problems but this can be overcome by taking appropriate treatment in time, and reverse the effects of HGH deficiency and lead a normal life.

So much of this is untrue.

There are many, many children who are diagnosed with GHD every year. My son has it and was diagnosed a year ago. He is severely dificent and does NOT have “stunted depelopment of the penis and at no point has it ever been a micro penis” and does NOT have a “decreased level of glucose in the body called hypoglycemia and jaundice”. ‘dwarfism’ is a medical condition in itself and has nothing to do with GHD. I also think you should have used the word ‘may’.
Do not assume that all cases of GHD are the same. You are clearly talking about something that you know very little about and are generalising.
GHD in adults can cause depression, weight gain, amongst other symptoms.
Growth Hormone should ONLY be given and used if needed. And prescribed through a endocrine
    specialist.
It angers me that people want to use it to stay young or for whatever stupid and ignorant reason they can justify to themselves.
